What seemed like a simple program glitch on a revolutionary mining machine turns out to be more serious. Far more serious. The machine, called BARD-P1 is hijacked by a hacker who has no idea what he is about to unleash. The machine punches through side of a cavern that is over five miles deep. The tunnel fills with a fog that is from an unknown origin. In an attempt to clear the tunnel they use large fans to vent it into the atmosphere. Within days workers start to become sick and die. The CDC, (Center for Disease Control) and a special agency created during the height of the Cold War, the Deadly Virus Containment Team (DVCT), are called in to identify and stop the spread of the virus. In the beginning it is identified as Ebola but soon mutates into a chimera. As millions are dying, the virus continues to spread. The two agencies work furiously to determine the exact makeup of the virus and its origin. Unknown to the two agencies, other forces are at work to keep the truth from being discovered. It is a frantic race against time to find a cure and stop the spread before the entire earth’s population is decimated. There is nonstop action that will make even the most optimistic person stop and think about the dangers of the world we live in. One small accident could determine the fate of the planet.

Doctor Abigail Montgomery is a Professor at the University of Arizona. She, along with her team of brilliant grad students, is working to prove or disprove the hypothesis of a tenth planet. During the project, an intriguing object is discovered. As they delve deeper, they are able to confirm that the mysterious object is an asteroid of near planet proportions heading toward our solar system. Traveling at over 32 kilometers per second and with a mass only slightly less than Neptune, it would be the end of the Earth if it impacted. The race to determine its exact course is complicated by the wobble of the planetoid. Observatories from Arizona, Chili, and the Canary Islands work to determine the exact path. Rumors abound as the media picks up the story and ‘experts’ are on the air non-stop with their theories. Abigail, along with other scientists, determines that the planetoid will not impact the Earth but they soon realize a threat just as great. It very likely will impact the Moon. The resulting collision would change life on Earth forever. In a race against time, a radical new EMP emitter, still in the testing stages, is approved by the President. As the window of opportunity closes, all the world can do is wait and pray that it will work. CLOSE PROXIMITY provides non-stop action that will make the reader consider what the world may face in the future and how fragile the Earth is in this vast universe. If you like cataclysmic adventure books you will really enjoy this one.
